My Dive Into Making Soap

01/04/2026 by Sherri

There’s something a little grounding about trying your hand at something so old-fashioned and hands-on—like soap making with beef tallow.

I recently dove into it, and honestly, I loved the whole experience more than I expected. The process was slow and intentional, and the finished soap had this rich, comforting scent that filled the kitchen in the best way. There’s something satisfying about creating something that feels so simple and so useful all at once.

And I do love using it—the feel, the lather, the fact that it’s something made from scratch with my own hands.

But reality eventually stepped in the door too. As much as I enjoyed it, I just don’t have the time to keep it up in a consistent way. And I’m learning that not everything you enjoy has to become something you carry forward indefinitely.

Some things are meant to be seasonally beautiful—experiments, little creative detours, reminders that you can make things with your hands, even if you don’t keep making them forever.
