Life is a journey.
We often hear that phrase, but the older I get, the more I realize how true it really is. Rarely does life unfold according to the carefully crafted plans we make. Roads curve. Detours appear. Unexpected opportunities emerge. Sometimes we find ourselves traveling paths we never would have chosen, only to discover later that God was leading us exactly where we needed to go.
The philosophy behind Chicks on the Road was born from that realization.
At first glance, the name might make you think of travel, road trips, and adventures. And certainly, those things are part of it. I love exploring new places, discovering hidden gems, and making memories along the way. But Chicks on the Road is about something much deeper.
It’s about living with open hands and an open heart, willing to go wherever God leads.
For many years, my life moved at a relentless pace. Career goals, deadlines, responsibilities, and commitments filled every corner of my calendar. Like many people, I believed that success meant having a detailed map for the future and following it exactly.
Then life happened.
Plans changed. Doors closed. New opportunities appeared. Dreams I had quietly tucked away began resurfacing. God started showing me that sometimes He doesn’t give us a complete roadmap because He wants us to trust the Guide rather than the map.
Scripture reminds us:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Notice that God promises to direct our paths. He doesn’t promise to reveal every mile in advance.
The older I get, the more comfortable I become with that reality.
Today, Chicks on the Road represents a different way of living. It means embracing adventure, whether that adventure is across the country or right in your own backyard. It means creating a life filled with faith, family, creativity, and meaningful work. It means choosing purpose over pressure and contentment over constant striving.
It also means understanding that the journey itself has value.
Sometimes we become so focused on reaching a destination that we miss the lessons, blessings, and relationships God places along the way. We rush through seasons that were meant to shape us. We overlook simple moments that later become cherished memories.
Some of my favorite memories have happened when the plan changed unexpectedly—a sunrise on a quiet beach, a conversation with a stranger, a family gathering around a dinner table, or a new opportunity that appeared when another door closed.
God often works in the unexpected places.
The Chicks on the Road philosophy embraces a slower, more intentional approach to life. It draws inspiration from concepts like hygge, lagom, and lykke—finding joy in simplicity, balance, gratitude, and meaningful relationships. But most importantly, it is rooted in faith and the belief that God is actively guiding our steps.
We don’t have to know exactly where the road leads.
We simply need to trust the One who does.
Perhaps you’re standing at a crossroads today. Maybe you’re facing a career change, a new season of life, an empty nest, retirement, or a dream you’ve been afraid to pursue. Maybe God is gently nudging you toward something new.
If so, take the next step.
Not because you have all the answers, but because God is faithful.
The road ahead may not look exactly as you imagined, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t beautiful.
After all, some of the best journeys begin with a simple willingness to say, “Lord, wherever You lead, I’ll go.”
That’s the heart of Chicks on the Road.
Not just traveling to new places.
But faithfully following wherever God leads.
