Some of the best family memories don’t require expensive tickets, elaborate vacations, or even leaving your own backyard.
Sometimes all you need is five grandchildren, a riding mower, a wagon, a few pumpkins, and a Granny with an idea.
Welcome to the very first Granny’s Great Pumpkin Sleepover!

It All Started with an Idea
I wanted to do something special for five of my grandchildren who had planned a sleepover at our house.
Not just another sleepover, but a whole fall experience. Something they could look forward to, participate in, and hopefully remember for years to come.
I called it The Great Pumpkin Sleepover at Granny’s Pumpkin Patch.
And once I started dreaming up ideas, things took on a life of their own.
I created a themed invitation, printable games, coloring activities, personalized songs, and even special artwork for my Samsung Frame TV.
Before long, Granny’s house was becoming its very own pumpkin patch.
Setting the Scene
I wanted the house to feel festive the moment the grandchildren walked through the door.

Our custom Frame TV artwork became a centerpiece of the decorations. It featured a beautiful nighttime pumpkin scene, glowing lights, a full moon, and a big wooden sign announcing The Great Pumpkin Sleepover.
With pumpkins decorating the mantel beneath the television, the whole room felt ready for a little autumn magic.
Then there was the sleeping arrangement.
Instead of separate beds, I set up one big air mattress and decorated it with black-and-white bedding, cheerful jack-o’-lanterns, and touches of lime green.
The best part? All five grandchildren fit perfectly when they slept sideways across the mattress!
I also had matching orange pumpkin T-shirts for everyone. Because if you’re going to have a Great Pumpkin Sleepover, you might as well look the part.
Grandpa’s Great Pumpkin Express
One of the highlights of the celebration didn’t require fancy equipment or a reservation.
It required Grandpa, our riding mower, and a wagon.

Grandpa hooked up the wagon, climbed aboard the mower, and became the official driver of our very own Great Pumpkin Express.
Our destination?
The playground!
The grandchildren piled into the wagon, and off they went for a little adventure. After enjoying the playground, everyone rode back home.
Sometimes the simplest things are the biggest hits.
Pizza, Sidewalk Chalk, and Charlie Brown
After our wagon adventure, we gathered for pizza and salad.
Then it was back outside for some sidewalk chalk fun.
There is something wonderful about watching children turn an ordinary patch of pavement into a colorful masterpiece.
Of course, no Great Pumpkin Sleepover would be complete without Charlie Brown.
We settled in to watch It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, a Halloween classic that still feels just as charming as ever.
And with our cozy sleepover setup waiting, the evening had that wonderful feeling of a childhood slumber party.
The Matching Game Was a Hit!
One of our special activities was a Great Pumpkin Sleepover matching game created by Wild Bill.
It wasn’t just an ordinary store-bought game. It featured pictures inspired by our celebration—pumpkins, wagons, playground fun, Halloween treats, and sleepover activities.
The grandchildren loved playing it!
And when the children actually enjoy what you’ve made? That’s the real reward.
Wait! Is That My Name in the Song?
Now, this might have been one of my favorite parts.
I created a personalized Great Pumpkin Sleepover song that included all five grandchildren by name with the help of the app, Suno.
Imagine being a little kid and suddenly hearing your own name in a song about a special night at Granny’s house!
They loved it.
There was something so sweet about watching them listen for their names.
AI helped me create the songs, but the excitement and smiles belonged entirely to the grandchildren.
That’s when technology becomes more than a novelty. It becomes a tool for making something personal.
Five Little Pumpkins, All Snug in a Row
Eventually, it was time for bed.

Our big air mattress was waiting, complete with Halloween decorations, pumpkin pillows, and cozy bedding.
And there they were—all five grandchildren, lined up sideways across the mattress, fitting just perfectly.
I had to smile.
After all the planning, the decorating, the games, the wagon ride, and the excitement, there was something especially sweet about seeing them all tucked in together.
That picture may be one of my favorite memories of the entire sleepover.
A Little Witch from Granny’s Childhood
The next day brought one of the most meaningful parts of our celebration.
I brought out a book from my own childhood called Old Black Witch by Wende and Harry Devlin.

This wasn’t just a Halloween book I had picked up for the occasion. It was a story I remembered from when I was little.
I read it to the grandchildren, sharing a small piece of my own childhood with them.
We also enjoyed coloring activities, including witch-themed pictures and a big jack-o’-lantern.
The children’s finished artwork became part of the decorations. Their pictures were displayed alongside the witch artwork in pretty gold frames, surrounded by autumn leaves.
I loved seeing their creations become part of Granny’s home.
But there was one more surprise.
Blueberry Pancakes, Just Like the Book!
On the back of Old Black Witch is a blueberry pancake recipe.
So naturally, we had blueberry pancakes!
I loved the connection between reading a book from my childhood and sharing something from its pages with my grandchildren.
A story I had known as a little girl was now part of a new memory with another generation.
And that, to me, was the real magic of the Great Pumpkin Sleepover.
Not the decorations. Not the matching shirts. Not even the games.
It was the connection.
The Beginning of a New Tradition
This was our first Great Pumpkin Sleepover.

And I hope it won’t be our last.
I can already imagine the children getting a little older, remembering the wagon ride, asking to play the matching game again, or wanting to hear their names in the songs.
Maybe we’ll add something new each year.

But I think we’ll keep the blueberry pancakes.
And definitely the wagon ride.
Because when I look back at those pictures, I don’t see a perfectly planned party.
I see five grandchildren having fun at Granny’s house.
I see a childhood book being shared with a new generation.
I see a Grandpa driving a mower with a wagon full of precious cargo.
And I see a new family tradition beginning.
We really are living tomorrow’s memories today.
And sometimes, those memories begin with a pumpkin, a wagon, and a Granny with an idea.
Until our next adventure,
Granny (aka Grandma Sherri)🧡🎃
