Why I started Chicks on the Road

09/07/2024 by Sherri

There comes a point when you realize the life you carefully built no longer feels like home.

For years, I lived in leadership meetings, deadlines, strategic plans, fundraising goals, and calendars packed so tightly there was barely room to breathe. From the outside, it looked successful. In many ways, it was. I was serving organizations I believed in, working hard, leading teams, solving problems, and helping move meaningful missions forward.

But somewhere along the way, I began to lose the quieter parts of myself.

The parts that loved stories.
The parts that created beauty.
The parts that longed for home, peace, warmth, and meaningful connection.

About five years ago, I started dreaming about a different kind of life. Not necessarily an easier life, but a slower and more intentional one. A life centered less around pressure and performance and more around faith, creativity, family, hospitality, and purpose.

Then the world changed.

Like so many others, the pandemic interrupted everything. The dreams I had quietly carried were pushed aside as survival, responsibility, and uncertainty took center stage. I kept moving forward, working hard, and doing what needed to be done. But the longing never completely disappeared.

Deep down, I still wanted to build a life filled with warmth, story, beauty, and meaning.

I wanted mornings that felt peaceful instead of rushed.
I wanted work that created life instead of draining it.
I wanted to make things with my hands and heart again.
I wanted to preserve the stories and wisdom that shaped me.

Most of all, I wanted to live differently.

Chicks on the Road was born out of that longing.

It’s more than a business or a website. It’s a gathering place for all the things I’m rebuilding and rediscovering: faith, storytelling, creativity, cozy living, hospitality, travel, family legacy, and intentional life.

Here you’ll find pieces of that journey:

  • reflections on faith and everyday life
  • stories passed down from my father
  • glimpses of cozy and intentional living
  • journals, books, and creative projects
  • encouragement for women who are also reimagining their lives
  • reminders that it’s never too late to begin again

The name “Chicks on the Road” reflects something deeper than travel. It’s about the road we walk through life itself — the unexpected turns, the reinventions, the sacred ordinary moments, and the people we carry with us along the way.

I don’t have every detail figured out yet.

But I do know this:
I want to create a life that feels like home.
I want to leave behind something meaningful.
And I want to invite others into that journey too.

So whether you’re here for the stories, the faith reflections, the cozy inspiration, the creative projects, or simply because you’re longing for a slower and more meaningful life yourself — welcome.

I’m so glad you’re here.

Sherri
