I tried to create a self-portrait the other day.
Let’s just say… it was less “artistic expression” and more “evidence that I should probably keep my day job.”
I started with confidence. Clean lines. Big vision. The kind of energy that says, this is going to be my masterpiece.
And then slowly, things began to drift. Proportions became suggestions. Perspective became optional. By the end, I wasn’t sure if I had drawn a self-portrait or a very confused potato with emotional depth.
The funniest part is I still sat back and thought, “Hmm… not bad.”
Which is exactly how you know it’s time to stop, put the pencil down, and thank God for other people who are gifted in the visual arts.
But honestly, there’s something freeing about it too—laughing at yourself, not taking it too seriously, and remembering that creativity doesn’t always have to be “good” to be worth doing.
Still… I’ll be keeping my day job. Which… These days is sitting right here with you.
