There are some moments in grandparenting that you know immediately are going to become family legends.
This was one of them.
Apparently, my two-year-old granddaughter decided that Grandma’s makeup drawer was exactly where she needed to be. Before anyone could stop her, she had found the red lipstick and confidently began applying it herself. And by “applying it,” I mean she enthusiastically decorated far more than just her lips.
The best part? The look of absolute pride on her face. She was convinced she had achieved something truly glamorous, and honestly, her confidence was inspiring.
As I watched her, trying very hard not to laugh too much, I was reminded of one of the sweetest things about childhood: children aren’t afraid to try. They don’t worry about perfection. They don’t overthink. They jump right in, fully committed, convinced they can do whatever they’ve set their minds to.
And sometimes, that’s exactly how joy is found.
“Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.” — Psalm 127:3
One day she’ll probably be embarrassed by this story. But today, it’s one of those precious memories that captures everything I love about being a grandma—the curiosity, the mischief, the innocence, and the laughter that comes from seeing the world through a child’s eyes.
And for the record, if confidence were measured by lipstick application skills, she’d already be a professional.
